Yanked away from a warm and colorful peninsula in the east at the tender age of eight, and forced to live in a cold and dreary peninsula in the west. Now a broke and starving college student plotting a grand escape to bright and exotic neutral and alpine places.

artists statement

To me, art is meditation— deliberate, but guided by an inner-consciousness. Just like meditation, the process of creating art brings out joys, pains, frustrations, and eventually, peace. Because each time I put pen to paper, I discover myself.

I love the transformation from idea to reality. To me, art really is about the process. Each time I start a new project, I feel like one of the characters from my favorite books embarking on a symbolic adventure of the spirit and the mind. A piece is only successful in my eyes if I have been challenged, explored new territory, made enlightening connections, or learned something new in the process.

My creativity comes from melding my worlds together. When I was young, being a struggling immigrant forced me to re-interpret the world around me, and come up with creative solutions to the challenges I faced. What resulted is a new self-identity and world view that tries to draw on the best of both worlds. I strive for this balance in all my work.
